The Simpson Strong-Tie EPCZ series of post caps are used to attach the top of posts to beams. The next-generation EPC6RZ, for rough size lumber, post caps are designed with their post and beam flanges in-line so that one EPC8RZ model can accommodate several post sizes. The EPC8RZ now uses easier-to-install 10d common nails. An alternate choice of fasteners is Strong-Drive #9x1 1/2' SD Connector screws. The EPC68Z post cap is approved to be installed with the specified nails or with Strong-Drive SD connector screws. The Strong-Tie EPC8RZ post base features a G185 ZMAX galvanized finish for added corrosion resistance and requires the use of hot-dip galvanized fasteners which meet the specifications of ASTM A153.
